Ikeja Electric trains electricians in safety procedures

Ikeja Electric Plc, in partnership with the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria, has trained over 100 young electricians and field technicians in safety procedures, risk management, and industry standards as part of efforts to improve professionalism in the power sector.
The one-day capacity-building programme, held in Lagos on Tuesday and themed ‘Electrical Safety and Best Practices in the Electricity Industry’, focused on practical sessions covering installation standards, alternative power integration, and emerging technologies in energy distribution.
Speaking during the event, the Lagos State Chairman of LECAN, Bada Waheed, said the initiative underscored the importance of collaboration between utility companies and professional associations in promoting safety and efficiency.
“Our young electricians represent the future of Nigeria’s energy value chain, and programmes like this ensure they are skilled, informed, and safety-conscious,” he said, adding that such efforts would help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and field application.
“Electricity is a powerful tool that demands responsibility and precision. This training reinforces our zero-harm culture by empowering participants with the right knowledge to execute their work safely and efficiently,” he said.
Okotie noted that the partnership was aimed at building safer communities and reducing accidents within the company’s operational network.
One of the participants, Makinde Adeyinka, described the session as “eye-opening”, saying it had improved his understanding of safety standards and proper electrical installations.
The initiative was part of Ikeja Electric’s ongoing efforts to promote youth empowerment, workplace safety, and professional development within the electricity sector.
