‘43 per cent of homes not metered’

The November & December 2025 Metering Status of Distribution Companies (DisCos) factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) yesterday, showed that about 43 per cent homes in Nigeria are not metered.
According to the data unveiled yesterday, metering rate in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) increased from 56.54 per cent in November to 57.27 per cent in December 2025, leaving nearly half of the nation’s household unmetered.
NERC said: “The November & December 2025 Metering Status of Distribution Companies (DisCos) factsheet provides a breakdown of metering progress across the country. Highlights: Metering Rate: The national metering rate rose to 57.27per cent by the end of December, up from 56.54per cent in November.”On new installation, the factsheet said 109,556 customers were metered in December, rising from the 88,592 in November.It added that the top performers in the industry were Ikeja, EKO and Abuja DisCos, recording above 76 per cent metering level.NERC said: “New Installations: A total of 109,556 customers were metered in December alone, compared to 88,592 in November. Top Performers: Ikeja, Eko, and Abuja DisCos continue to lead with the highest metering rates, all maintaining levels above 76 per cent.”The factsheet said the total metered Customers as of December 2025, reached 6,966,584 out of 12,163,412 active customers.
