Rotary Club supports small ventures with loans

In a bid to grow small businesses, the Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja District 9111, said it has concluded plans to support small businesses with loan facilities.

The club disclosed this recently during the installation of Rotarian Olalekan Olubanjo as the 23rd president of the district, the induction of board directors and a fundraising ceremony in Lagos.

Olubajo explained that his tenure would focus on transformative projects aimed at uplifting underserved communities.

“In addition, the district has implemented a micro-credit loan scheme, offering N100,000 loans to support small businesses. The scheme currently benefits six individuals, with plans to expand its reach every quarter,” he said.

He added that the district would be embarking on projects worth N75m for the 2024-2025 Rotary year

“The construction of a primary health care centre in Ishon, a remote island community in the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, is a flagship project for the rotary year, which will cost N15m,” he stated.

Olubajo emphasised the club’s commitment to improving the lives of the Ishon Community, a region that had long been overlooked due to its challenging terrain.

Olubajo mentioned several ongoing initiatives, including the distribution of sanitary pads to female students, bed kits to pregnant women, insecticide-treated nets, and medical consumables to the community’s primary health care centre, among others.

On educational projects, Olubajo said the district was committed to upgrading the information technology centre at Wasimi Junior High School and enhancing the library at Wasimi Senior High School.
