Obasanjo to discuss leadership at Akintola Williams Memorial Lecture

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been slated to serve as the special guest of honour at the maiden edition of the Akintola Williams Memorial Lecture organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

A statement from ICAN has shown that the president of the institute, Davidson Alaribe, had extended an invitation to the former president during his visit to his Abeokuta home on Monday.

The Akintola Williams Memorial Lecture is being held in honour of the late Mr Akintola Williams, widely recognised as the Doyen of Accounting in Nigeria.

During the visit, Alaribe emphasised the significance of Obasanjo’s involvement, noting his enduring influence as a national leader, which makes him an ideal figure to lead discussions on the lecture’s theme, ‘Leadership Dynamics: Current Realities and Way Forward’.

Accepting the invitation, Obasanjo stressed the need for greater efforts to honour Williams’ contributions and thanked ICAN for taking this initiative.

The visit also included a tour of the Obasanjo Museum, library, and archives. During the tour, Obasanjo highlighted the importance of preserving institutional memories, a practice he noted is often neglected in Nigeria.

According to Obasanjo, a strong understanding of the past is vital to documenting the present and shaping the future.
