NAICOM, NCAA set up joint committee on aviation insurance

A statement from the Commission emphasised that the primary objective of the joint Technical Committee is to reaffirm the Commission’s long-standing commitment to safeguarding the interests of policyholders.The terms of reference for the joint committee include “verification of certificate of insurance and other insurance-related documents of airline operators, affiliate agencies, and NCAA service providers; providing technical support to the NCAA on insurance matters; coordinating/facilitating resolutions of complaints of airline operators on insurance covers and services during periodic meetings; and providing advice to the NCAA on all aviation insurance-related matters bordering on adequacy and validity.

Others are coordinating trainings/workshops/awareness programmes for NCAA/NAICOM and its stakeholders on aviation insurance, coordinating training on insurance and aviation matters, organising and attending periodic meetings of both organisations, carrying out periodic reviews of the minimum insurance cover requirements by all persons/groups of persons having a duty as operators/providers in the aviation sector to maintain adequate insurance for their operations during periodic meetings, organising and attending periodic meetings with airline operators and insurance providers, and carrying out any other tasks as the collaboration allows.

Rominiyi, on behalf of the NCAA delegation, pledged to thoroughly dedicate herself and her team to their responsibilities by exhausting all measures to ensure the successful attainment of the committee’s objectives.

The National Insurance Commission and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority have set up a joint committee on aviation-related matters.

The committee was inaugurated at the NAICOM Office in Abuja on Wednesday when a delegation from NCAA led by the DGM, Financial Health & Aviation Insurance, Mrs. Dorcas Rominiyi, visited the Commission.

The Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive Officer of NAICOM, Olusegun Omosehin, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner Technical, Dr. Usman Jankara, stressed that the Commission’s primary responsibility is to regulate the insurance industry’s business activities and safeguard the interests of policyholders.
