Mutfwang seeks peace sustenance in Plateau
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has called on citizens to sustain the prevailing peace in the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fostering harmony and coexistence across Plateau.
He made the call on Sunday during the 2025 Wusal Berom Service, held at Mararaban Jama’a, Jos South Local Government Area, organised by the Berom Language and Translation Board.
Addressing a gathering of worshippers, traditional leaders, clergy, and political dignitaries, Mutfwang expressed gratitude to God and the Berom people for their steadfast support.
He recalled that prayers offered during Wusal Berom 2022 preceded his emergence as Governor.
“I remember coming here for Wusal Berom 2022, and you prayed for me. Today, by the grace of God, I am the Governor of Plateau State.
“I thank you for giving me the privilege to walk in the footsteps of our father and the father of modern Plateau, Da Jonah Jang,” he said.
The governor commended the clergy for promoting love and brotherhood among the people, stressing that unity and mutual respect remained the foundation for the state’s progress.“We are brothers and sisters under God. That is the spirit we must nurture, a united Plateau pursuing God’s purpose for our existence,” he emphasised.
Mutfwang also reaffirmed his regard for traditional institutions, particularly the revered stool of the Gbong Gwom Jos, describing it as “a Plateau stool, not just a Berom stool.” He assured that his administration would continue to support and strengthen traditional leadership structures as a means of sustaining peace, harmony, and stability across the state.
The governor announced a donation of N10m to the Berom Bible Translation Trust for the production of audio Bibles for the elderly, N20m to the Berom Women’s Association to empower widows and vulnerable women, and pledged N100m as seed money for the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, promising full government collaboration toward its realisation.
Addressing the youth, the governor cautioned against being used on social media to malign leaders, reminding them that “power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He wills.”
He encouraged young people to embrace collaborative politics over conflict, stressing that Plateau’s progress must rise above partisan divides.
Goodwill messages were delivered by former Governor Jonah Jang and by Da Edward Gyang Bot, representing the Gbong Gwom Jos.
Other dignitaries present included Senator Pam Dachungyang, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Bernard Doro, representatives of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, and several political, religious, and traditional leaders.
The Chairman of the Wusal Berom 2025 Planning Committee, Rev Daniel Saje, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their immense contributions to the success of the event.
A major highlight was the unveiling of the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, symbolising a new era of unity, cultural revival, and progress for the Berom Nation and Plateau State.
