Lagos assembly passes N4.44trn 2026 budget into law

The Lagos house of assembly has passed a total of N4.44 trillion as the state’s budget for 2026.

Chaired by Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the house of assembly, the legislative chamber authorised the issuance and appropriation of the bill during plenary on Thursday.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, had presented the 2026 appropriation bill to the house of assembly on November 25, 2025.

Following its presentation, the bill was committed to the committee on appropriation, with other standing committees of the house serving as sub-committees for the scrutiny of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) under their respective purview.

During plenary, Sa’ad Olumoh, chairman of the committee on economic planning and budget, presented the committee’s report on the floor of the house.

Olumoh said N2.1 trillion was approved for recurrent expenditure, while N2.33 trillion was passed for capital expenditure for the year ending December 31, 2026.
