Kwara gov presents ₦644bn 2026 budget to assembly

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday presented a ₦644,004,816,893 appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly.

While presenting the budget at the House complex in Ilorin, the governor said ₦424.7bn, representing 65.98 per cent of the total estimate, was earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦219.3bn, or 34.02 per cent, was allocated to recurrent spending.

AbdulRazaq said the structure of the budget reflected his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and addressing areas of urgent public need across the state.

“The total size of the budget for the 2026 fiscal year is ₦644,004,816,893.

“The 2026 budget placed strong emphasis on security, with increased funding for security hardware, operational vehicles and modern technology to strengthen the state’s response to kidnapping and other criminal activities.

“The proposal also aims to consolidate development gains while improving the welfare and safety of residents,” he said.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Salihu, assured the governor that lawmakers would give the appropriation bill thorough legislative scrutiny in the interest of the people.

“This bill will be given in-depth legislative scrutiny and come out with a bill that will be to the benefit of the people of Kwara State,” he said.

Danladi-Salihu added that the House was encouraged by ongoing developmental projects across the 16 local government areas of the state and pledged that the budget would be carefully reviewed.
