FG, Innoson to boost youth training initiatives

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has paid a working visit to Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing in Nnewi, Anambra State, to strengthen collaboration on youth empowerment and skill development.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, signed by Director Information & Public Relations, Omolara Esan, Olawande was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olubunmi Olusanya, and other officials of the Ministry. The delegation was received by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

Commending the automaker, the Minister said Innoson’s “pioneering role in local innovation and job creation, particularly in CNG vehicle production, tractor assembly, and other industrial ventures, presents vast opportunities for youth empowerment.”

During the visit, Olawande interacted with young Nigerians benefiting from Innoson’s technical training and apprenticeship programmes, including two young women currently excelling as auto-technicians. He said their experiences “exemplify the transformative power of skill acquisition and enterprise.”As part of the visit’s outcome, the Ministry announced plans to partner with Innoson to expand youth training, apprenticeship, and enterprise development initiatives nationwide. The collaboration will focus on the automotive value chain and related sectors.

The Minister also met with the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba, to explore federal–state collaboration on the “1 Youth, 2 Skills” campaign.

Both ministries, according to the statement, “reaffirmed their shared commitment to equipping young Nigerians with practical, income-generating skills that foster productivity, innovation, and self-reliance.”

On Friday, Olawande had warned youths against irregular migration, enumerating the inherent dangers associated with it.

Olawande gave the warning during a campaign and advocacy programme on the effects of irregular migration for youths in the Southern Zones held in Abeokuta.
