Miss Universe: I didn’t win by pity, I worked hard for it – Chidimma Adetshina

Crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has addressed the criticism surrounding her win.

In a recent interview on Arise News, she emphatically stated her victory was not a result of sympathy or pity, but rather the culmination of her hard work and dedication.

She shared her journey from competing in Miss South Africa to winning the Nigerian title, highlighting the challenges she faced along the way.She emphasised that her experience was not vastly different from that of the other contestants, and that she spent 10 weeks in camp, undergoing the same rigorous journey as her peers. “A lot of people felt like it was a pity win. I don’t think so. I feel like I really worked so hard, coming from the South Africa journey. We spent like 10 weeks, camp, going through the whole journey.“It might have been a slight difference compared to everybody else, but if you have to look at the journey that we have all been through, I feel like I really had the same experience with other contestants,” she said.Despite being forced to withdraw from the South African pageant due to allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother, and facing xenophobic backlash and rejection over her nationality, Adetshina said she persevered.
